Ashton Conker Club now wishes to make contact with new potential sponsors.
The World Conker Championships has been running since 1965 and is held in October near the picturesque market town of Oundle in Northamptonshire. It attracts about 500 entrants from across the world and about 4500 spectators each year. The event comprises a men’s, ladies’ and two junior age championships. It is a great fun day out for the family with numerous other stalls and entertainments in addition to the main competitions.
The event attracts a huge amount of publicity for the sponsor with extensive coverage on TV, radio and the national and local press. The event offers potential for a company looking for sponsorship of an unusual but traditional British pastime. Previous sponsors include Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and Royal Haskoning.
The cost of running the Championships is paid for by sponsorship but all money raised from the event itself is donated to charities for the blind and partially sighted. This is usually split between the RNIB and local groups working in the area where the event is held. Last year we donated £20,000 and our total donations to date are approximately £400,000.
The World Conker Championships are organised by Ashton Conker Club - a hard working team of approximately 40 volunteer members. The organisation of the event is run mainly by an Executive Committee of 10 who have wide experience in a range of professions and who take a professional approach to the running of the event.
